“Her” in Real Life: The Apple AI Announcement

Now, you may have heard about Scarlett Johansson (ScarJo) suing OpenAI for allegedly copying her voice in the movie "Her." While it’s debatable whether that lawsuit will succeed or whether Sam Altman's decision to use a facsimile of her voice despite her refusal to represent the voice for ChatGPT 4.0 was ethical, what is not debatable is that personalized digital assistants are rapidly advancing with AI. If you didn’t get the memo yet, Apple's AI announcement, Apple Intelligence, at the Worldwide Developers Conference was a pretty big deal.

While some industry experts will dismiss some of the announced features as not new, for most laypeople, the idea of a more human-like Siri trained on your own data with the power of generative language models like ChatGPT and a promise to keep your data secure through “Private Cloud Compute” is mind-blowing. That security bit has concerned most people and businesses who don’t want their data stored in a third-party cloud.

At a minimum, you should know that these AI use cases are on the near-term horizon, backed by the massive data Apple already has on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers. And you know it’s going to be a hot minute before the PC market jumps in the game with their own promised closed-loop versions.

I’m always interested in making Fintech and DeFi relatable. So here are the parallels I see between the announcement and the movie "Her."

My article explores the various use cases of Apple Intelligence, highlighting how these innovations are set to transform the way users interact with their devices, drawing parallels to the 2013 film "Her."
